Prophylaxis

Prophylaxis is a preventive dental cleaning procedure aimed at maintaining oral health and preventing gum disease. This thorough cleaning involves the removal of plaque, tartar, and stains from the teeth and below the gumline. Prophylaxis not only keeps your smile bright but also helps to avoid serious dental issues by ensuring that harmful bacteria do not accumulate. Regular prophylaxis appointments are essential for maintaining optimal oral hygiene and preventing the onset of periodontal diseases.

Fluoride Varnish

Fluoride varnish is a highly effective treatment used to strengthen tooth enamel and prevent cavities. Applied every 3 to 6 months depending on individual needs, this varnish offers a protective barrier that enhances the tooth’s resistance to decay. It also helps reduce tooth sensitivity, particularly to cold stimuli. The application process is quick and simple, involving the brushing of a concentrated fluoride gel onto the teeth. This treatment is especially beneficial for children and those prone to cavities.

Sealants

Dental sealants are a proactive approach to cavity prevention. These thin, liquid coatings are painted onto the chewing surfaces of premolars and molars, where they act as a barrier against bacteria and food particles. Once applied, the liquid sealant is cured with a special light, hardening it into a durable protective layer. Sealants are particularly effective for children and teenagers, as their newly erupted permanent teeth are more vulnerable to cavities. However, adults can also benefit from sealants, especially those with deep grooves in their teeth.

Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF)

Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) is a revolutionary treatment for tooth decay. This colorless liquid contains silver, which has antimicrobial properties, and fluoride, which helps to remineralize the tooth. SDF is an inexpensive, fast, and painless procedure, making it an excellent option for patients of all ages, especially those who may be anxious about dental treatments. When tooth decay is detected, SDF can be applied to the affected area to kill bacteria and halt the progression of decay. This treatment is particularly useful for young children, elderly patients, and individuals with special needs.
